With Winter coming, do you have room in your garage to store your snowblower and shovels? A cluttered and disorganized garage can make it difficult to find something or to get some work done in your garage. Imagine how nice it would be to have a custom garage where everything has a place and everything was easier to get to. Life would be much easier. If you have a garage that is so cluttered that you can’t park your car in it, it is time for some organization. When winter comes, you want your car to be in a garage so you won’t have to scrape ice and snow off your windshield each morning. There are some simple ways you can organize your garage, you just have to know where to start.
A fall garage sale is a great place to start. If you have things taking up space in your garage that you don’t necessarily use, sell them. If you don’t want to have a garage sale, you can always donate your junk items to Goodwill. Start by getting two big bags or boxes. Put the stuff you want to keep in one box and the stuff you want to sell or donate in another. Donate or sell items that you have not used in a while. Organize certain items together. For example, if you store your car cleaning products in your garage, place them in bins and label them so all of your cleaning supplies are together and easy to find.
After you have sorted through all of the items in your garage, make sure you give the floor a good sweeping. A shop vac or a push broom can help you get out dust and dirt from the garage floor. If you can power wash it, that is a good idea too. That can help remove any oil stains, gas spills or other stains left behind by cars, ATV’s or lawn mowers.
It’s also a good idea to have racks or shelves installed in your garage. There are companies that can build custom shelves for your garage so you can keep things off the floor and stored up above. This gives you more room to park vehicles and store mowers or snowblowers.
It’s also important to also have a locking cabinet space where you store dangerous chemicals or tools that should be kept away from children. A garage can be a dangerous place for a curious child. Be sure to lock up anything that can harm a child or pet.
After you have cleared out your garage, you will finally be able to park your car in it and it won’t have to sit outside all winter. You will have room for your snowblower and shovels and will be ready to take on the snowy season.
