How To Organize Your Cluttered Garage

A cluttered garage can be really frustrating when you are trying to find something or trying to get some work done in your garage.  Having a custom garage where everything is in its own place and is easy to find would make life so much easier.  Some people have so much clutter in their garage they can’t even park their cars in it.  There are some ways you can organize your garage you just have to know how to start a project like this.

It’s a good idea to start with a garage sale.  Chances are, if your garage is really cluttered, there are things in it you can probably get rid of either by selling or donating.  First, go through your garage with two separate bags or boxes.  You can use a giant garbage bag or find boxes at your local grocery store.  Go through your garage and decide what you want to keep and what you want to sell at your garage sale or donate.

If you come across an item and you are not sure whether you should keep it or get rid of it, ask yourself a very simple question…”When was the last time I used this item?”  For items you decide to keep, store them in see through bins.  For example, sports equipment should all be stored together in one bin.  Car cleaning products can also be stored in bins and kept out of the way.

After you have sorted through everything in your garage, it’s time to start sweeping up.  A good shop vac or broom will help get dust, dirt, cobwebs, spider webs and any other junk out of your garage.

If you don’t already have racks, shelves or hooks in your garage, you may want to consider installing these or having a professional company do it.  There are businesses that can help you make the most of your garage space and helping you de-clutter and organize your garage so you can actually use it and find things in it.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a place to hang your bicycle when you are not using it?  Think of how much space that could free up.

It’s extremely important to also have some sort of locking cabinet space or high shelf that is not accessible to children.  This is where you should store dangerous tools and chemicals that children might otherwise get into.

Take pride in your newly organized garage.  It should be a place that you enjoy parking your car in, not a space that collects junks and dust.
