Organize Your Home Office And Get More Done

If you have ever tried to get work done in a messy office, you probably know it can be difficult to concentrate.  If things are in your way or there is clutter on your desk, you may have trouble finding the important papers you need or a pen to write something down.  That’s why creating a custom home office that is neat and organized is so important.  If you want to be efficient in your job, you need to have a clean office.

There are a few things you can do to organize your office. First, make sure there is a clear pathway to your desk.  Don’t have other items from the home in your office.  It is a distraction.  For example, if the first thing you see when you walk into your home office is a vacuum cleaner in the way, store it somewhere else like in a closet or bedroom.  Have everything cleared out from the entrance of your door to your desk so that you don’t have to climb over or around anything to get to your desk.

The next step is to clear your desk.  Decide what needs to be on your desk and what does not.  Your computer obviously needs to be there but does that coffee cup from last week need to be there?  Probably not.  Get a trash bag and start clearing off old cups, wrappers and old papers. It’s very useful to get bins and folders to store your important papers in.  You can have an “in” tray for things that still need to get done and an “out” tray for things you have finished.  You can also get little caddys to store pens, thumb tacks, paper clips and other small items in.

Next, if you have large items on your desk that are taking up way too much space, get them off of there.  Your printer for example, is there another place you could put it?  You can always buy a small printer table to store your printer on.  It’s also a good idea to get a multi-function printer that has things like a scanner and fax machine built in.  That can eliminate your need for these individual machines and clear your office for more space.

If it is off your desk, you have more room to work and will be able to get things done more efficiently.  Clutter can cause chaos in a home office.  It can be a distraction and really cause someone to forget things and misplace things.  Having an organized home office is the best way to be productive at home.
